I searched online for a new AVIA Tonopen. The best price was by a Hong Kong dealer who, I found upon review, had a terrible reputation of not delivering the goods after receiving payment. The next best price was by a dealer who, upon questioning, admitted that there was an error on their website - the Tonopen was refurbished - not new. The next best deal was with Optics. I called to verify it was a new Tonopen. They said it was. Then I sent them an email asking the same question (I wanted a written statement from them). Optics confirmed the Tonopen was new. I ordered it and the Tonopen was delivered in two days. It was new and works fine. Considering the pitfall in online shopping for expensive instruments it was gratifying to find a serious dealer who tells the truth.
